Bush School - Callan Park - 2024

We heard your requests, and we’re excited to announce that our popular Bush School program is coming to Callan Park! 
 
Bush School is an outdoor program that gets children moving, creating, and thinking in a stimulating natural environment, giving them a chance to explore, discover, connect with nature and learn at their own pace. 
 
The program is designed to inspire a love and respect for the natural world in children through outdoor exploration, bushcraft activities, and storytelling.   

After just a few sessions, your child may start to experience the benefits of connecting with nature such as increased creativity, confidence, attention span, and sense of responsibility in the great outdoors. 

Led by experienced Educators, this nature play program for children aged 2.5 to 5 years and their caregivers reconnects families with nature in Callan Park's beautiful surroundings. 
  

Age: Children 2.5 – 5 years 

Meeting point: Our Bush School site is located at the Summerhouse in Callan Park. 

Callan Park is bursting with life! Come and join us at Bush School and experience the new sounds, sights and sensations of spring. Every week has a different theme.   

• Week 1: Listen to the story of the Little Brown Spider and create your own woven spider web as you get to know the Bush School site. 

• Week 2: We’re going on a bug hunt! Get up close with the tiny creatures who call the park home and make your own seed balls to take home and encourage pollinators like butterflies to enjoy your garden. 

• Week 3: Discover how kookaburras live together as families and teach their young to fly!  

• Week 4: Tune in to the sounds of the bush and craft your own instruments to form a bush orchestra. 

• Week 5: Learn to track animals by following their scatts, sounds and more - test your skills and see which animals live in the park! 

Throughout the program, children will enjoy a variety of stories songs, craft and games that enhance their learning and enjoyment 

Things to know before you attend 

Please come prepared, as this program will go ahead in all-weather unless it is unsafe to do so (for example, during high winds or thunderstorms). Children must wear enclosed shoes.  

This program is suitable for children aged 2.5 - 5 years. 

We reserve the right to cancel the event in case of dangerous weather or if minimum participation numbers are not met. In these circumstances a refund will be offered. Please refer to our full terms and conditions for more information. 

What to bring to the event 

Ensure your child comes prepared for this session by: 

• Bringing a refillable drink bottle  

• Dressing for the weather with sun protection (hat, sunscreen, cool clothing) and wet weather gear (raincoat, shoes and change of clothes) 

• Wearing enclosed footwear. 

  

Your responsibilities if you feel unwell 

I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that all attendees associated with this booking do not attend if: 

• We/I show any COVID-19, infectious disease or virus symptoms or feel unwell 

• We/I have had a fever, diarrhoea or vomiting within 12 hours or at the time of the program 

• We/I have been asked to self-isolate 

• We/I have had a positive COVID-19 test result and continue to have symptoms. 

If any of the above apply to you or any attendee associated with this booking, we request that you do not attend this program. In this instance, please contact us via email on education@gsp.nsw.gov.au to arrange for a refund of your ticket.
