Event description

Join OceanWatch in a journey of discovery of the Tuross Catchment through the lens of bushfire recovery and resilience, on this FREE tour. The tour will run three times: 27, 28 and 29 April 2022 - pick the date that most suits you when booking your ticket! Lunch will be provided.

You will learn about:

  • the impacts of bushfires to waterways and the ecology of the estuary
  • local oyster farming and the impacts of bushfires to this industry.

WHAT: Meet at the Bodalla Fire Shed for a briefing and an introduction to bushfire management by RFS officers. We will then hop on a coach and visit a local creek which has experienced severe erosion issues, and learn from a Council environmental expert what they have done to repair the damages. We will also learn from a Nature Conservation Council Ecologist (28th & 29th) about local fire ecology. We will have lunch at the Nerrigundah Community Centre, followed by a visit to an oyster shed in Tuross Head. We will meet a local oyster farmer and hear about their journey of local aquaculture between bushfire impact and recovery. All transport by coach is included.

WHERE: The meeting point is at the Bodalla Fire Shed, 109 Princes Hwy, Bodalla NSW 2545.

WHEN: 27, 28 or 29 April 2022. Pick the date that suits you best! The tour content will be the same on each day. 09:00-15:00.

WHAT TO BRING: Protective clothes against the weather, your water bottle. Lunch will be provided. We will be able to accommodate any dietary requirements which are requested until 1 week prior to the tour.
