After running the world’s first Indigenous Startup Weekend and Business Accelerator Program in 2016, Dean Foley created an Indigenous charity called Barayamal. This eventually led to a national and worldwide movement making Barayamal a world leader with a growing number of partners and a mission to help close the (massive) disparity gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. This is being done by building technology solutions, running business accelerator programs and free events. They invest in school-based education and funding in Indigenous startups. Barayamal also produces the Indigipreneur podcast, which interviews several Indigenous entrepreneurs providing free resources to help the younger generation.
SPEAKER BIO
Dean Foley served five years in the Royal Australian Air Force before founding Australia’s Indigenous business accelerator, Barayamal – now known as a world leader in Indigenous Entrepreneurship. Dean is an action-oriented entrepreneur, former-Microsoft RAP Advisory Board Member, CSIRO STEM Award Winner, Indigenous Digital Excellence (IDX) Entrepreneurship Award Winner, and proud Kamilaroi Man from Gunnedah, NSW. He is currently in his final semester of a masters degree at the Queensland University of Technology.
