Business Series: Social media manipulation: Clever Tactics & Conspiracy Lies

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

What are the clever tactics that make conspiracy lies go viral and why should start-ups be aware?

In the lush land of northern New South Wales, internet guru Mitra Ardron has a unique access to the land of conspiracy theories and the tactics that amplify them on social media.

Mitra will share his insights on social media manipulation. Having worked for decades building and growing companies in sustainability and development, he’ll also drop a few ideas about what’s happening in the clean-tech space.  As Technical Lead for Decentralisation for The Internet Archive, Mitra will also provide a birds-eye-view of internet content management trends and what that can mean for start-ups.

SPEAKER BIO

Mitra Ardon is the Technical Lead for Decentralisation at Internet Archive, a company that is all about working at the edges where sustainability, business, community, technology and development meet.

In the last few years Mitra has been working with the Internet Archive on decentralization, especially how to work with places where the internet is expensive, slow, or censored. This continues the work of his early career starting at Association for Progressive Communications (APC.org), the leading NGO representing civil society use of the internet, and his work with many of the early internet standards (http, vrml, uri etc)

Mitra’s life has been about building and growing companies and organisations (his own and other people's) working in the areas of sustainability & development, especially those developing new technologies (of all kinds). He started Lumeter, the leading PAYGO technology supplier, built Australia's fastest growing solar company; worked on green materials; sustainable consumer products and mentored innovators and entrepreneurs in a variety of technology-for-good contexts.
