Description

Time for some buzzing bee holiday fun!

Bring the kids along to our 1.5 hour engaging and educational programs to teach young minds about the importance of bees.

Highlights:
The kids will visit an actual live beehive onsite at Burnetts on Barney's own Apiary, fully protected in their own bee suit and gloves. Not only will they get to look inside a hive to see all the bees at work, they will also get to hold a frame of bees, look for pollen, nectar and honey, and even try and spot the Queen Bee!

They will also:
- learn about pollination, nectar, bee life cycles, how bees make honey, and how we cant survive without them.
- learn about honey bee anatomy by colouring in the parts of the bees.
- learn why it is crucial we keep planting as many flowering plants as we can to ensure all our native and honey bees survive
- get to taste some pure honey straight from one of our hives.

Ideal for primary kids aged 5 - 12 years. (Children under 5yrs welcome with accompanying adult).

The Bee Inspired team all run the workshops. Collectively they have been farming honey bees and teaching bee workshops for 12+ years. They manage 20 of their own hives around the Kiama, NSW area and manage hives for approximately 30 clients at any one time. Owner Rachael holds a Certificate III in Beekeeping from the NSW DPI and the other staff will be undertaking the same qualification soon.

The Bee Inspired team are the resident beekeepers at Burnetts on Barney (Kiama). The honey harvested from the hives is sold in the Quarry Cafe onsite. They run workshops throughout the year for adults, school children, special needs groups, private and corporate groups and also provide private mentoring for other beekeepers in the area. All the team carry current WWC checks.
Participation subject to confirmation of ABSENCE OF ANAPHYLAXIS DIAGNOSIS.

Children should wear layered clothes, hair tied back, closed-toe shoes / boots and bring a water bottle.  The workshop will be outside around the Quarry Cafe area at Burnetts on Barney.

Parents welcome to stay or have a coffee at the Quarry Cafe and make use of the time to do some garden shopping at the award-winning nursery - Burnetts on Barney. Think of all the plants you can take home and plant with your newly inspired kids :)
There is a wet weather back-up plan, however in the event the forecast is severe, we will contact parents the day before to advise of any changes.

$1 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Wheen Bee Foundation, a group doing incredible research work on bee and habitat improvement and sustainability
