Introduction to Bystander Action (29 Nov)
Event description
This workshop is open to community members in the Mildura Region.
Build your confidence to help prevent problematic behaviours and gender based violence in the Mildura Region.
This two hour workshop will cover:
- A brief overview of gender equality, inequality and its impact on all of us.
- The link between gender inequality and gender-based violence.
- The Bystander Effect - how “doing something” to support others, even a small act, can have a big impact.
- How to be an Active Bystander – safe and appropriate actions you can take to interrupt harmful behaviours like sexism, sexual harassment and attitudes that justify, excuse, blame or trivialise gender based violence.
What is an active bystander?
An active bystander is a person who decides to take action to help other people when they hear about or see sexist or sexually harassing behaviour. An active bystander can be a friend, family member, colleague or stranger. When an active bystander takes action to help someone else they send a message that gender based violence is everyone’s business and that everyone has a positive role to play in eliminating it.
