Virtual COPE: California PATH Preview
Event description
Are you a California-based organization that works with Medi-Cal beneficiaries?
You may be eligible to receive a high impact professional development training at no cost to you or your staff through the California PATH initiative.
The Virtual Cost of Poverty Experience (Virtual COPE) is designed to reflect real people’s stories, simulating health inequities and social drivers of health outcomes for families in poverty. Virtual COPE is an interactive online simulation that helps participants better understand the day-to-day lived realities of those wrestling with health inequities due to poverty, and become a change-maker in their organization.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the intersection between poverty, health access and health outcomes.
- Identify four principles of connection that can lead to more effective outcomes with families in poverty.
- Combat health inequities through personal and organizational actions that foster trust and reduce the negative impact of bias in the system.
- Complete a self-assessment and be given tools based on each person/ team’s starting point.
This training uses an inclusive and interactive format involving group trivia, online simulation, breakout groups and personal testimonies from those with lived experience. Virtual COPE is conducted online through a 90 minute live session. Family role play scenarios can be selected based on the needs and context of the group.
