California’s Global Health Dividend: The Case for State Leadership (Los Angeles)
Description
The USC Institute on Inequalities in Global Health, Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Global Health Council, together with our partners, invite you to the launch of the California Global Health Leadership Initiative and the release of a new multi-institutional report on California’s global health dividend: the return that U.S. global health investment brings to the nation’s largest state.
California is home to a vibrant community of global health experts and institutions, united in the belief that the state’s health and prosperity are deeply connected to the health of the whole world. Led by the USC Institute on Inequalities in Global Health, this landmark study describes this interconnectedness in four related areas:
Health and safety: How global health protects Californians from disease and other cross-border health threats
Economy: The jobs, economic activity and other measurable benefits that global health brings to the state
Industry and innovation: How global health partnerships strengthen California’s life sciences, biotech, and research ecosystem
Global influence and impact: How California’s institutions and expertise shape health worldwide and reinforce the state’s international leadership
This hybrid event will showcase the network behind those benefits: California’s universities, public institutions, communities and industries, from biotech and digital health to research and civil society. Speakers will discuss how the state can build on that strength, and how a new generation of California leaders can shape global health as it moves beyond traditional aid toward partnership, innovation and shared investment.
