Description

The prevalence of suicide in this country presents significant social, economic and cultural challenges. Its impact on families and communities can be devastating which can lead to intergenerational suicide. A confident and competent workforce is essential for implementing effective and intervention strategies.

Effective suicide prevention must be based on a sound understanding of the reasons for suicide. With the rapidly expanding body of research and knowledge on the subject it is essential that professionals ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date.

The workshop provides a comprehensive overview of suicide prevention theory and practice. It focuses on our understanding of the phenomenon of suicide the suicidal moment and the factors that are considered risk and protective. It also provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on their practice in engaging with suicidal individuals using the four C’s of suicide prevention: Comfortable, Confident, Competent and Compassionate.
