Caloundra Women Speak Forum Theatre Event
Event description
What is Forum Theatre?
Forum Theatre resides within the tradition of "Theatre of the Oppressed" originating in Brazil. It is a theatre process facilitating social sense-making of an issue and collectively generating ideas for how we might bring about change on this issue. Audience members actively participate in generating these ideas which are then acted out in the scenario to see how this influences a better outcome for the people directly affected.
What is the issue?
The issue is the limitations and impacts of the current systems meant to support women in their journey towards recovery from domestic and family violence. These become barriers to women feeling safe in accessing the help they need. In listening to the voices of women with lived experience we can recognize the harm these inflict on women and their families. In coming together with these women, we can explore what might be possible to create a sense of safety and better outcomes.
Photography and Filming:
Parts of this performance may be filmed and photographed. The safety and comfort of performers and audience members is a priority. We want to reassure you that filming and photography will be done very sensitively to avoid your identification as an audience member if this is a concern for you. We will also have roving hosts on the day who can support you with this. When you purchase your tickets, you will be asked to indicate your consent for your image to be included in filming and photographs. These photographs and the film will be publicly available. If you would like further clarity about this, please speak with Jody or Holly from Caloundra Community Centre on 5491 4000.
