Can we bring orchids to Oaklands?

The attraction of orchids and their delicate flowers for gardeners is obvious and celebrated. Much less understood is the role these plants play in revegetation and biodiversity restoration projects undertaken by landcare groups.  Join our volunteers as we hear from special guest speaker, Gordon Ninnes, of Native Orchid Society of South Australia (NOSSA) as he shares what he has learned from decades of raising and re-establishing orchids.

Gordon will share his learnings on the relationships between orchids and pollinators, fungi and soil, germination and the diversity of habitats that sustain these fascinating plants, and their unique role in biodiversity.

We aim to bring together what Gordon knows about growing orchids with what we have learned on revegetation sites along the Sturt River over the past 13 years. A great presentation for landcare volunteers or adventurous native gardeners.  

MEETING POINT: we will be in the Oaklands Education Centre, located south west of the Recreation Plaza and skatepark car parking area on Oaklands Road.
