Canberra Poetry Slam Ft. Scott-Patrick Mitchell

ANOTHER CANBERRA SLAM??! 
That's right baby, we can't be stopped, poetry for the people, for you, for me, for our stories. 

When you buy a ticket, you pitch in to keep this community kicking - thank you, thank you, thank you. 

Another place your money goes is financially thanking the venue (venue hire if you will) 
And we pay feature artists an industry standard fee! (minimum wage if you will) 
Look at you go! doing good and feeling good and being rewarded with some good good.. poetry.

Coming all the way from Boorloo/Perth, Whadjuk Noongar Country, Western Australia... WA people!

Scott-Patrick Mitchell is a WA-based queer non-binary poet who lives on Whadjuk Noongar Country.
They were the recipient of 2022’s Red Room Poetry Fellowship, Westerly’s 2022 Mid-Career Fellowship and the 2023 winner of The XYZ Prize for Innovation in Spoken Word.
Their debut poetry collection Clean (Upswell Publishing, 2022) was shortlisted for The Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, The WA Premier’s Book Awards, The Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards and internationally in The Read Rainbow’s Best LGBTIQA+ Books of 2022 Awards.

For those new to our community, a slam looks like …

🎤 A silly and sometimes chaotic, self-depricating-for-your-enjoyment host.

🎤 A round of open mic performances who get scored by "expert judges"
    who we *randomly* select from the audience, 
    with a winner announced at the end of the night,
    who takes home a modest prize. 

🎤 A lot of feelings, it's a privilege to hear someone share vulnerably.
    You might find your story in theirs.

🎤 A feature set from some of the best writers who perform in Australia!!

Canberra Slam exists for the sharing and listening to of human stories. 
We value community above all else. 

All are welcomed and encouraged to share their stories.
All expressions of sexuality, gender, spirituality, beliefs, culture and diversity in experience is celebrated.
It goes without saying we are passionately anti bigotry. 

Community can be complicated - 
We come from all walks of life, contrasting ways of seeing the world.
Hard conversations are easier when they are had with respect and empathy.

Easy walking distance from bus and tram, fully accessible entry and facilities.

It's a bit of a living nightmare trying to get to the venue at the moment with construction everywhere,
so allow more time especially if you're driving in! 

Multiple bars and food options on location! Come thirsty and hungry :D
