The Australian Poetry Slam is program that runs in every state and territory across Australia, the winner from this months slam will be the ACT champion and go on to the National final!

Our winner this month will be representing the territory at the Sydney Opera House and have the chance to be crowned the champion of Australia's largest program for writers who perform. 

Expect to the see the best performers in Canberra brave the stage and battle it out for the title.

The big one is keep your poem to 2 minutes - otherwise you will LOSE POINTS.
Timer begins at your first word, so leave out any introductions.
Top 5 from first round go through to the final. 
There are two rounds on the night, prepare two poems.

For those new to our community, a slam looks like …

🎤 A round of open mic performances.

🎤 Judges, randomly selected from the audience and a winner announced at the end of the night.

🎤 A feature set from a nationally recognised performer.

Canberra Slam is a safe space.

We emphasise ALL are welcomed and encouraged to share their stories - naturally, there's always potential for tension.

We are a community, made up of a complex mix of humans from all walks of life, together, we can do our best to navigate this safely as a community.

🎤 When do performances begin?

Doors open at 6:30pm, bring some friends, find a seat, get a drink or sign up to perform. Performances will start at 7:00pm sharp.

Feature poets usually on around 8:30pm.

🎤 What is a slam performance?

Think of slam as a framework to share what you think and feel with artistic expression. 
Performances often take diverse forms, resembling poetry / spoken word. 

🎤 How do I sign up to perform?

You can sign up when you buy a ticket, selecting the "performer" ticket option, OR if you muster up the courage later, ask the door person if there's space on the list!

🎤 Is there an entry fee?

We have a tiered ticketing system ranging for $10 - $30 – your ticket price pays the feature artist an industry standard award wage.
What's left over will go towards cover ground costs and booking bigger events.

🎤 What if I can't afford the entry fee?
