Description
Canon - a reimagining
VIP fundraising event
Wed 2 Dec, 2026
6 - 8pm
Bega Showground Pavilion
To mark FLING's 25th anniversary year, Canon has been reimagined for our contemporary cast of young and emerging artists.
To celebrate this 25th milestone, we are calling on our supporters, philanthropists, sponsors and FLING friends to join us at a VIP opening of Canon.
Be the first to see this reimagined work, and join us for drinks, charcuterie and anniversary celebrations as we fundraise to support a secure future for FLING.
The arts & cultural sector is experiencing a changing landscape to funding at a state and federal level which is deeply concerning. The need to expand our sources of financial support to sustain FLING’s existence without increasing the costs to our community is urgent.
As a supporter of FLING, we have loved having you as complimentary guest at our shows. In this moment, we are asking you to give back and purchase a ticket.
We appreciate you standing beside us - as an advocate and supporter - celebrating 25 years of nurturing future artists, vibrant thinkers and community leaders right here in the Bega Valley.
About Canon:
Canon was originally created in 2006 and is a prominent work from the FLING archive.
Inspired by an original composition written by Geoffrey Badger, Canon 2006 was directed and choreographed by FLING's founding Artistic Director Lee Pemberton, with choreographic contributions from Helen Linkenbagh.
It was a defining work of technical skill and musical expression for this early FLING Company, and a defining moment for the local communities energy around the organisation.
Featuring 20 dancers and 3 young musicians, they were a renowned company cohort in this grassroots era of the organisation, many of them launching soon after into tertiary study and creative careers.
Canon 2026 has been reimagined by original cast member and FLING's Associate Artist Paddy Meessmann alongside original musician Leif Helland.
FLING respectfully acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we live, dance and create. The Djiringanj people, whose custodianship has never been ceded, and continues to guide and support our connection to country today. We pay our respect to elders past, present and emerging.
