Capabilities for Transformative Change: Activating Fields of Energy.

Due to the success and feedback of our launch webinar held on September 11th 2025, we have been encouraged to offer additional participatory webinars to take a deeper look at what is in each pillar of the report.

Each exploration will contain theoretical grounding, dialogue in small groups and practice of the theory so that there is an opportunity to practice in real-time. In some of these explorations we will invite in someone from the field with deep experience in the subject co co-contribute their insights, in others Jenny, Josie or Al will host.

This webinar focuses on the Capabilities we call Weaving The Future.

In our report, Place-Based Community-Led Regeneration we spoke about weaving as a particular role within regenerative work. In the past decade, the work of weavers has become increasingly important, though yet to be well recognised and funded. Weaving can be both healing and creative work. We heard many practitioners name weaving work as an act of love and caring for the future. We also heard many practitioners describe it in ways related to the quality of multiplicity.

Weavers are also people who see the qualities and paradigms of both people and systems and instinctively know when to connect parts into wholes,people into projects and people to each other - at just the right moment when a spark may flourish. It is possibly life’s way of creating a response to the polycrisis in which we find ourselves; as we design breakdown into planetary systems, the living system creates an automatic response in the form of a sudden breakout of weavers.

We saw weavers who had experimented exclusively in specific fields, such as Daniel Christian Wahl, who has spent decades weaving relationships and connection in the field of education and learning systems. He could be described as a weaver of content, meaning and capacity to catalyse transformative innovation and creating educational experiences that improve people’s capacity for whole systems design and regenerative development. He describes it as a ‘calling’. In his own words, a weaver is “someone who knows how to bridge between the different silos and sectors of society. S/he has mastered the art of connecting people and organizations who were previously unconnected and often even unaware of each others role.”

In this lunchtime practice session, we will look at:-

• the core qualities and capabilities of weavers

• successful weaving efforts across the UK and Europe

• ways in which to secure more recognition and resource for this work

As with our first study, we have supplemented the content with Really Regenerative and our founder Jenny Andersson’s own decade-long study of place-based regenerative design and development, much of which was documented for her study: Places For Life. We have also been allowed to bring in some critical illustrative case studies from other sources such as the research study by Leen Gorissen, Karla Bonaldi, Piet Haerens and Lénia Rato, commissioned by the Belgian Federal Public Service for Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment.

Really Regenerative’s own journey, studying and supporting many place-based community-led regenerative projects around the world helped to to deepen our understanding across the different fractals of place, from neighbourhood to bioregion.
