Cardboard Cutouts Live at The Irish w/ Palinola and Mitch Salisbury
Event description
Returning home after 6 weeks on the road completing their biggest tour to date, Toowoomba’s own Cardboard Cutouts return to the Irish Club Hotel for the first time in over five years. Bringing local talent Palinola and Mitch Salisbury, this is a show not to be missed.
Their debut album Politics & Footy Tips is a powerful coming-of-age statement, five years in the making. It’s a collection that blends blasting guitar riffs, melodic hooks and a deeply honest lyrical voice-anchored by Argus’s uniquely Australian vocal delivery. From the anthemic energy of My Best Friend to the reflective heartbreak of Steer, the record captures the trials, triumphs and transitions of young adulthood with striking clarity. Every track balances intensity and introspection, showcasing the band’s ability to write songs that feel as much like journal entries as they do festival-ready rock anthems.
At the heart of their rising momentum is the standout single Clear My Head - a nostalgia-soaked track written during a sleepless night, caught between memories and the pull of moving on. With its swelling dynamics, confessional lyrics and a singalong chorus built for amphitheatres, it represents a breakout moment for the band.
Cardboard Cutouts’ sound lives in the tension between modern alternative rock and the timeless yearning of youth. It’s in the tasty basslines, emotionally-charged choruses, and the honest reflections of four friends finding meaning in the messy in-between. Their music is as at home on late-night playlists as it is booming on your favourite gym playlist.
