Northcote’s High Street isn’t just another shopping strip. It’s a much loved, eclectic main street that is walkable, safe and community driven. In July 2025, McDonald’s Australia submitted a proposal for a 24-hour McDonald’s outlet in the heart of High Street Northcote. After strong community opposition, Darebin Council rejected the application. But McDonald’s has now appealed to VCAT. We need your help to continue fighting this proposal. The proposal generated intense community backlash with over 110 formal objections, an online petition of over 11,500 signatures and a physical petition of over 530 signatures. Council voted 6–3 to reject the proposal on 10 November due to community, trader and councillor concerns over McDonald's negative impacts on traffic, safety, amenity and local businesses. A group of local resident Objectors intend to put their case to the VCAT hearing in April 2026. We are these residents. We need your help to prepare an effective case against McDonald’s and its team of lawyers. All funds raised will go to help pay for much needed expert advice and support.
