Castlemaine Heritage Diggings Loop: Grade 3 (Easy/Medium)

The Gisborne Walking Club invites you to join them on the Castlemaine Heritage Diggings Loop Grade 3 (Easy/Medium). This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria

A medium walk on a loop track, with both flat and some undulating well defined tracks and short section of country road. With lots of mining history, including Garfield Waterwheel, and a variety of bushland, including Expedition Dam. This is just one of many tracks in the area.

DISTANCE:  11 km.  Duration 4.5 hrs. including breaks.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR?  This walk is suited to both beginners and bushwalkers with some experience, with a moderate level of fitness.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

PACE: Steady easy pace, with regular breaks.

TOTAL ASCENT: 237m.

MEETING POINT: Is in the carpark, opposite the Gisborne Aquatic Centre.  We will meet here, and carpool/convoy the 45min to the start of the walk at the Garfield Water Wheel (Google Map).  We recommend you download this map for use offline.  GPS coordinates: -37.07265, 144.25976

CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT: There will be carpooling available at the Gisborne meeting point.

PHONE SIGNAL: Phone signal good in some areas to poor in others.

TOILETS: There are no public toilets, on this walk.

ABOUT OUR CLUB: Gisborne Bushwalking Club (GBWC) is over 40 years old and a membership of approximately 80. Members are drawn from the Macedon Ranges, Sunbury and beyond, with some members travelling from Melbourne suburbs. Membership comprises a range of ages, abilities, backgrounds and interests. GBWC offers mainly day walks, activities include hiking with a pack, overnight camping, and sunrise/sunset walks. Victorian and interstate base camps, are popular with cabin accommodation arranged for periods from a weekend to a week or more. Visit our website.
