    Event description

Arakwal - Bundjalung - Byron Bay - we are blessed with the prospect of walking this country and sharing our songs. Let our ancestry entwine. We are due to play a soulful night of reggae, roots and folk lore at Kulcha Jam alongside the local legends Neil Junior and Sunny Side Up.

Nikau Te Huki is a unique composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Wellington, New Zealand - and his soulful solo project goes by the name of Casual Healing. There’s something curious about this young Maori-Italian maestro. He holds a charming crooked smile and often appears in an elaborate wardrobe, with an old nylon guitar over his shoulder looking like Elvis Marley, weaving a symphony of roots-reggae, r&b and soul. Casual Healing understands the power of music. As a true sonic missionary, Nikau is creating a soothing “golden-era sound” as part of his mission to heal with his music, emphasising life lessons of aroha, peace and unity through powerful lyrical scribe woven into smooth reggae, soul rhythm. Casual Healing's goal is to create songs that “make people feel like they want to be better people”, drawing inspiration from Bob Marley, who showed us the power of compassion and simplicity. On 19th April 2024, Casual Healing released his debut album ‘DRIFTWOOD’, these tracks have achieved notable success, securing positions on the NZ Official Hot Singles chart and garnering substantial airplay on commercial radio and various Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and has also been selected as one of Rolling Stones AU/NZ's Best New Zealand Albums of 2024 So Far. Following this, Casual Healing took on an 8-stop, sold out tour of Aotearoa and recently performed at One NZ & Live Nation's Ones To Watch, before heading to Australia in October for his debut international appearance.
