Event description

After 4 years honing his craft by performing on the south coast of England, Chris Harland exploded on to the Australia blues scene in 2007. Picking up the Canberra Blues Society’s award for best instrumentalist in 2008 paved the way for numerous festival appearances and attention.

The combination of screaming, weeping, singing guitar solos with soulful vocals sees Chris Harland and his eponymous band deliver a distinguished standard of searing Chicago Blues. A promise to showcase a commanding performance that will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Chris Harland has performed alongside some of Australia's biggest names in blues music including Shane Pacey, Ali Penney, Ray Beadle, Blue Eyes Cry, Charlie Bedford, Jesse Valach and was chosen to be the support act for Eric Burdon and the Animals for their Canberra Theatre show during their 2016 Australian tour.

Bassist Paul Leeder has backed some of the hottest of our rock and blues legends - Jeff St John, Wendy Saddington, Angry Anderson. With a touch as soft as thunder and a muscular grip on the ground-zero of blues, Paul preps the launch-pad for every soaring solo.

Drummer Mitch Preston has been on the live music scene since 1975. He's just about played it all: rock, jazz, blues, reggae, funk, country, big band and stage productions. Mitch’s powerhouse blues style perfectly complements Chris’s huge sound.

Before switching to piano in his teens, Peter Kirkup started out as an organist. After playing with Canberra funk juggernaut, ‘Funk Shui’, and with ‘The 3 Funkateers’, a trio that continues to bring contemporary New Orleans funk to the Nation’s Capital, Peter purchased a Hammond organ and is relishing the opportunity to explore the classic Hammond sound with the Chris Harland Blues Band.

The host band will be followed by some of the finest musicians in the Canberra region jamming together for a fantastic afternoon of live Blues music.
