Cultural Burning Workshop 2025

CULTURAL BURNING WORKSHOP with DUDUROA DHARGAL ABORIGINAL CORPORATION

Join Duduroa Elders Uncle Allan Murray & Uncle Phil Murray and landholder Bridget Doyle, to learn how traditional Indigenous fire practices are being reintroduced into contemporary land management for the healing of Culture & Country.

Come along and learn firsthand the benefits of cultural burning, how to read the country, prepare your site & safely carry out a cool burn on your property.

At this workshop you will learn about:

~ the importance of cultural burning practices

~ fire as a tool to maintain healthy ecosystems and protect Country

~ how cultural burning relates to bushfire hazard reduction, weed management and biodiversity

~ interpreting Country for burning

~ site preparation, application of cool burning and 'blacking out' or securing the site after a burn

WHEN

Friday 16th May, 10:30am-1pm.

Please arrive by 10:15am for parking and registration.

WHERE

Private property in Staghorn Flat. Address provided on your ticket once a booking has been made.

• Lunch will be provided
• Physical Fitness level required: MEDIUM ( Walking/standing for a period of 2 hours or more required)
• Biosecurity: There will be a biosecurity foot-wash on site. We ask all attendees to please make sure their footwear and vehicles are free from any weed seeds and pathogens before entering the property.

WHAT TO BRING

• Wear sturdy, enclosed shoes, long pants and long sleeves.  
• Sun protection- sunscreen and a hat
• Water bottle
• Camp chair 
• If you are unwell on the day please remain at home in consideration of the health of others

While we are able to cater for vegetarian options at our events it is difficult to cater for every dietary requirement due to our limited funding. If you have dietary requirements outside of this option please bring your own food and drink.
