Candid Conversations - 2023 NSW Election Candidates
Event description
Candid Conversations - People of Colour Candidates for NSW Election
Influenced by the rise of cultural diversity in US, UK and New Zealand politics, Australia is catching its own wave of intersectionality with unprecedented numbers of First Nations and People of Colour running for office.
The 2022 Australian Federal Election showed us that diversity in politics makes for good politics! Over 150 candidates of colour pre-selected to run for office with the major parties leading the way on diversity and inclusion - Liberals (27), Labor (26) and Greens (18). As a result, First Nations and People of Colour now make up 9.6% of Australia's 47th Parliament compared to 3.9% of the 46th.
Join us for this thrilling Candid Conversation where we talk to four more culturally diverse candidate running in the NSW State Election, including:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman Lynda-June Coe, the Upper House candidate for the Greens Party
- Hong Kong Chinese Australian man Hugo Chan, also an Upper House candidate for the Elizabeth Farrelly Independents
- Indian Australian woman Charishma Kaliyanda, the Labor candidate for Liverpool who is also an incumbent City of Liverpool Councillor, and
- Fijian Australian man Isaac Nasedra who is the Greens candidate for the seat of Bankstown.
