Description

The Australian Research Council funded Centre, Centre for Cryo-electron Microscopy of Membrane Proteins (CCeMMP), is hosting a free in-person 2026 Research Symposium to showcase the exciting research and technological advances in the field of cryo-electron microscopy and membrane proteins and will feature two keynote presentations. CCeMMP invite the scientific community to attend and participate in the symposium on the 2nd and 3rd of December at The Bio21 in Melbourne, Australia.

The Centre invites the scientific community to attend and participate in the symposium.

Keynote Speakers

  • Associate Professor Alisa Glukhova

    Associate Professor Alisa Glukhova

    Dr Alisa Glukhova is a Snow Medical and an NHMRC Fellow and a laboratory head in the Structural Biology division at WEHI. She earned her PhD in Chemical Biology in 2014 from the University of Michigan, where she worked on solving structures of lipid-modifying enzymes using x-ray crystallography. During her postdoctoral training at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, she used x-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and pharmacology techniques to study different G protein-coupled receptors.

  • Professor Andrew Ellisdon

    Professor Andrew Ellisdon

    Professor Andrew M. Ellisdon is an NHMRC Leadership Level 2 (L2) Fellow and Head of the Structural Biology of Signalling and Cancer Laboratory at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His laboratory captures signalling in action, revealing how large protein complexes control cell growth and metabolism and how their dysregulation contributes to cancer and inflammatory disease. His team combines cryo-electron microscopy, protein biochemistry, proteomics, live-cell signalling assays and computational approaches to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying disease-associated signalling. Recent work has defined mechanisms controlling NF1/RAS, TSC/RHEB, P-Rex/RAC and lysosomal mTORC1 signalling, including the structural characterisation of LYCHOS/GPR155 as a lysosomal cholesterol sensor. His research spans discovery biology, therapeutic protein engineering and academic–industry translation, with support from the NHMRC, ARC, MRFF, US Department of Defense and Victorian Cancer Agency.

  • Assistant Professor Oleg Sitsel

    Assistant Professor Oleg Sitsel

    Assistant Professor Oleg Sitsel is originally from Estonia. After doing a Bachelor’s in Gene Technology at Tallinn Technical University, he moved to Aarhus in Denmark for his PhD studies in the lab of Poul Nissen, focusing on elucidating the structural biology of heavy metal transporters using X-ray crystallography. Afterwards, he moved to Oxford University to do an EMBO-funded postdoc in the lab of Simon Newstead, where he worked on determining the structure of kidney drug transporters. His next move was to the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany, where he did a 6-year postdoc in the lab of Stefan Raunser, learning the intricacies of single particle cryoelectron microscopy and cryoelectron tomography, and applying these techniques to investigate extremely large bacterial toxins and their biogenesis. Since May 2024, Oleg leads his own group at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology on the subtropical island of Okinawa in Japan, where he uses cryoelectron tomography to investigate corals from a structural biologist’s perspective.
