About This Training

Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council (BRMC) is proud to offer our Cultural Competency Training program for CHSP staff and volunteers who want to improve their service delivery for consumers from migrant or refugee backgrounds.

Our immersive, participatory training is designed to develop essential skills and knowledge in cross-cultural work and inclusion. Workshops are facilitated by qualified trainers with lived experience as migrants or refugees to Australia.

What You'll Learn

By participating in our program, you will:

  • Develop practical skills to better engage with people from different cultures
  • Enhance cross-cultural communication techniques
  • Learn key strategies for cultural competency
  • Discover how to work effectively with interpreters
  • Explore how your own beliefs and cultural background influence your interactions
  • Gain insight into the changing demographics of our local region through real experiences

Please select ONE session only from the options below:

Face-to-Face Sessions

Held at Ballarat Welcome Centre, 25-39 Barkly Street, Ballarat

  • 27 March 2025 | 9:30am - 1:30pm  PLEASE NOTE: This session has been cancelled. 
  • 10 April 2025 | 9:30am - 1:30pm
  • 8 May 2025 | 9:30am - 1:30pm PLEASE NOTE: This session has been cancelled. 

Morning tea and lunch are provided for all face-to-face sessions.

Online Session

  • 24 April 2025 | 9:30am - 1:30pm
  • Registration for online sessions will be followed up with a calendar invite and link to join the training.
  • Please ensure each individual registers and joins on their own device. 

Important Information

  • Each session is limited to 20 participants
  • The program is delivered over a 4-hour session including breaks
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early for face-to-face sessions to allow time for registration
