Celebrating Cultures Pop-Up: Kids Theatre Performance 'The Girl whose Twin was a Bird'

Join us for a magical theatre experience as The Girl Whose Twin Was a Bird (or “Bird Bird” for short). This heartwarming performance invites tamariki and whānau into the world of Petra Quek and her noodle stall, Flying Mee Hoon Kueh, where she cooks her signature noodles live on stage. Through a beautiful blend of puppetry, storytelling, and cooking (yes, puppets who cook!), audiences will experience a joyful, multi-sensory story about family, food, memory, and the special bond between twins. Inspired by Malaysian hawker stall culture and the creator’s own experience growing up as a twin, Bird Bird explores identity, belonging, and the journey of finding your own path while staying connected to those you love. Following the performance, audiences are invited to stay for a special Meet, Greet and Eat experience—meet the puppets up close and enjoy a taste of freshly cooked noodles. A delightful experience for children and grown-ups alike, celebrating culture, creativity, and the stories that bring us together. Suitable for tamariki and whānau.
