Celebrate the upcoming release of Dr. Kara Kennedy's (of DuneScholar.com) book Frank Herbert's Dune: A Critical Companion at this virtual event!

She's joined in conversation with co-host Dr. Leigha McReynolds, whose article "Locations of Deviance: A Eugenics Reading of Dune" was recently published as a chapter in the edited collection Discovering Dune: Essays on Frank Herbert's Epic Saga [affiliate link].

About the Hosts

Dr. Kara Kennedy is a researcher, writer, and educator in the areas of science fiction, digital literacy, and writing. She is the author of Women’s Agency in the Dune Universe: Tracing Women’s Liberation through Science Fiction (2021) and has lectured and published on various aspects of Dune, including world-building, names, social sciences, and spice. 

Dr. Leigha McReynolds received her PhD in English from George Washington University, where she wrote her dissertation on science and the supernatural in 19th-century British literature. Her research focuses on genetics and disability in contemporary science fiction, and she teaches science fiction themed classes for George Washington University, The University of Maryland, College Park, and the D.C. bookstore Politics and Prose.
