10am: Join an onsite butterfly walk, learn about some local butterflies and be part of the Sunshine Coast Big Butterfly Count.*

8am-4pm: Browse our native butterfly garden displays, learn about our Gardens for Wildlife program and pick up selection of plants to start your butterfly garden at home!

Why support butterflies? Not only gorgeous, butterflies are an important part of a healthy environment. Both adult butterflies and their caterpillars are food for many creatures like birds. Butterflies also help to pollinate our plants. Many caterpillars can only feed on specific native host plants. Because of this close relationship with plants, butterflies can be an indicator of the environmental health of an area.

Mooloolah River Landcare helped launch the first ever Sunshine Coast Big Butterfly Count and continues to be an active part of the wonderful network of local landcare groups, nurseries and council facilities who run the bi-yearly Sunshine Coast Big Butterfly Counts in November and March.

Creating Gardens that Attract Wildlife...with a focus on butterflies :)

Mooloolah River Landcare recognises just how important gardens can be in supporting our local flora and fauna. With support from Sunshine Coast Council, and an agreement with the Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, and Barung Landcare; Mooloolah River Landcare is now delivering Tasmania’s successful Gardens for Wildlife program to the Mooloolah River community and across the Sunshine Coast. Sign up during our Gardens for Wildlife Butterfly Celebration of Butterflies and receive a lifetime membership (for the duration of the life of your sign) for just $33.

Gardens for Wildlife Membership includes: a sign to display on your front fence/gate, 5 x free plants to kick start your native garden, and a Garden for Wildlife Information Booklet.
