Description

Have you ever tried to put together a jigsaw puzzle that was missing a lot of pieces and didn’t have a picture to show you where everything goes? That’s how challenging it was to reconstruct the vandalized and completely obliterated gravestones of one of Long Island’s oldest families—the Schencks. On Saturday, September 26th, at 1pm, come hear Rav Freidel talk about his book, Cemetery 104. An early American Burying Ground Lost and Found and the painstaking process he and his team went through to bring Cemetery 104 back to life.

The author divides his time between Montauk and his historic Schenck-Mann house in Syosset. Freidel, a retired award-winning advertising copywriter has devoted much of his life to land preservation and has successfully helped save thousands of acres on eastern Long Island. Finding and restoring a Colonial American family burying ground was never on his radar. And yet, it may be one of the most important things he’s ever done.
