You are invited to join the National Gathering for Community Gardens Australia - taking place on the weekend of November 5-6, 2022. The event will be held at CERES Community Environment Park and selected community gardens in Melbourne’s inner suburbs. 

The theme for this year’s National Gathering is “Big Community - Local and International Perspectives on Community Gardens”  

DAY 1 - Saturday 5th November - Conference at CERES 
$120 General Admission/$95 Concession

On day one, the gathering will hear from international speakers, including Pamela Warhurst who helped establish the Incredible Edible local food project in Yorkshire, UK - a local response to global concerns over climate change, food sustainability and community change. Our Master of Ceremonies is Costa Georgiadis, landscape architect and presenter on ABC's Gardening Australia. 

  • Presentations - Including from Community Gardens Australia President, Naomi Lacey, on what she has learned from her Churchill Fellowship travels overseas 
  • Discussion panels - With regional experts in community gardening, sustainability and food networks. Panelists consist of Dr. Nick Rose, founder of Sustain, Stephanie Degenhardt, research coordinator at the Agency for Urban Environment in the City of Oslo, and Community Gardens Australia President, Naomi Lacey.
  • Workshops - Choose between tours of CERES’ projects, a soil workshop, or a workshop on good governance.  
  • Community Gardens Awards - We’ll present the winners of our inaugural awards that champion all the amazing volunteers in gardens around the country. 
  • Food - Fully catered morning tea, lunch, and drinks and nibbles on the lawn (following day one’s proceedings) are included in the ticket price. All dietary requirements can be catered to. 

Join community gardeners from around Australia at the first national gathering of the sector in five years. Online engagement will also be available through streamed sessions and moderated breakout and discussion rooms. Online attendees will not be able to attend workshops unfortunately, so the event will only be streamed from 9AM to 1PM, covering all presentations, panel discussions, and awards.

Online tickets are only available for Day 1 of the National Gathering.

DAY 2 - Sunday 6th November - Community Garden tour
$75 General Admission/$65 Concession

On day two, guests will be treated to a tour of Melbourne's inner north community gardens, followed by a Long Lunch at Oakhill Food Justice Farm, catered by The East African Sisters. Spots for this event are strictly limited, so book now to avoid disappointment!

The itinerary for the day will include: 

1. Ecological Justice Hub - 4-6 Michael Street Brunswick - 10am start!

2. West Brunswick Community Garden and Food Forest - 49 Everett St, Brunswick West

3. SEEDS Communal Garden - 331 Albert Street, Brunswick

4. Oakhill Food Justice Farm - 233 Tyler St, Preston - Lunch will be served here!

5. Fawkner Food Bowls - Corner Creedon &, Lorne St, Fawkner - 4pm Finish!

Drop off by 4:30 back at the Ecological Justice Hub in Brunswick

Tickets include transport by a chartered bus and a fully catered lunch.
