Challenging LGBTIQA+ Resistance Workshop
Event description
This FREE workshop is brought to you as part of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.
It is for anyone working in LGBTIQA+ inclusion, supporting those working in LGBTIQA+ inclusion or wanting to complement their work in diversity, equity and inclusion.
The workshop draws on three decades of practice and research evidence in challenging homophobia and transphobia, and engaging men whilst challenging everyday violence-supporting attitudes and behaviours.
During this workshop, participants will learn:
- How to identify, unpack and understand LGBTIQA+ resistance in everyday settings
- The difference between competence and confidence, and the importance of both in challenging resistance
- The common and effective ways to respond to, interrupt and engage LGBTIQA+-resistant individuals in everyday situations
- How to tailor your own individual ways to respond to, interrupt and engage
- How to plan for challenging LGBTIQA+ resistance success in everyday settings
NOTE: Places are limited to 25 in this workshop.
Morning tea will be provided.
Workshop Facilitator
Daniel is an award-winning author and the founder of Rural Pride Australia which focuses on the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in regional, rural and remote Australia. His focus is on helping communities assess their LGBTIQA+ inclusion readiness, practical strategies that work outside metropolitan centres and working on what can be done “in the meantime” ahead of an LGBTIQA+ utopia. For 15 years he worked with No to Violence in primary prevention, strategic and training roles, with a focus on engaging and challenging everyday men in their violence-supporting attitudes and behaviour. He has also worked with Kids Help Line, VicHealth and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
