Chapel Of Sound II

Erskine Chapel in Island Bay is considered one of the finest examples of French-Gothic architecture in NZ. Built in 1929 and restored in the 1990s, it features an Italian marble interior, soaring, vaulted ceilings and world-renown acoustics. For the first time since Erskine was built, it reeled with the sound of the underground on July 25th this year. The full audiovisual experience was a night to remember, the energy was felt by everyone there, the dancefloor was packed from start to finish, it looked and sounded incredible. So we are doing the only thing we could do; we are making it happen all over again.

As before; expect projection mapped elements, lighting to knock you sideways, sound that soars, a fully licensed bar, a decked-out chill area, a dancefloor under the arches and a collection of some of Aotearoa’s favourite selectors who will have the chapel rocking.

Dylan C is a household name. His music journey began back in the day working at Cuba Street’s Real Groovy, before moving north and embarking on a seven-year residency at Tāmaki Makaurau’s fabled Rakinos.From there, Dylan became a cornerstone of the local scene, spending 10 years as Program Director at Base FM and 15 years running the Jungle Stage at Northern Bass. He’s played almost every event you can think of, from Electric Avenue and Tora Bombora to legendary late-night and closing sets at Splore.He’s also been the vibe controller behind Shipwrecked’s Hidden Reef Stage and remains a staple across the board on any lineup. His deep, clever cuts never fail to move a dancefloor - he’s a master of his craft.

Heylady was born in Wellington in the boiler room of Tatou in the 90s. She started promoting in the early 2000s, and by 2010 had picked up the DJ bug and was playing regularly alongside internationals and locals. A well recognised name in Aotearoa’s underground, she has played the length and breadth of the country, across Australia and America. She’s one of the founding members of Taniwha’s Den, she’s one half of COMMUNICATE and co-owner of XCOMMUNICATE records. With decades of collecting killer house and techno under her belt, her well-honed ear always makes for a stomping dancefloor.

Hape has been holding it down in Wellington since the late 90s. He’s had residencies at some of the city’s most recognised establishments, brought musicians together under multiple event brands and been one of the people who have kept the scene alive. His custom brand of rolling, soul-driven sound is instantly discernible, he has a current residency at Havana Bar, and is a regular at Taniwha’s Den, his closing set last time went down in the history books.

Nam Chucks is a DJ, selector and longtime radio host at Radioactive FM. She possesses a deep respect and appreciation for sound system philosophy, dedicating her musical selections to the concepts of unity and inclusion in rave culture. She is a believer in guiding the dance and has huge respect for all things sacred and indigenous. She has played for a huge variety of events in her time, and she always holds it down.

Lady Lazerlight knocked it out of the park with her projection mapping and light show last time, so we’ve brought her back for this round.

With all this and more, we recommend arriving early. The goodness starts when the doors open and we’d hate for you to miss any of the show. Tickets are extremely limited, we suggest grabbing yours before they are gone as last time they sold out in less than 48 hours.
