Character Lab with The Beryls
Event description
It’s a Character laboratory with The Beryls! This two-day workshop invites you to bring a costume and a proposal for a character. Maybe you have the seed of an idea, a wig you’re obsessed with, or a character you’ve had for a while that you wish to go deeper with. This workshop will take you through exercises to create an embodied character, exploring physicality, voice and the drive of the character.
Each performer will explore their character through improvisations and devising tasks with feedback from the facilitators and audience to support you in fully realising your character. This workshop is based in physical theatre, mask and improv practices that us Beryls use to create our work. It will be a rigorous and playful weekend aimed at liberating the performer & finding freedom in the form of the character. We will provide you with tools to take into your devising process beyond the workshop.
This workshop is perfect for performers who create their own work, and also for actors working with text seeking more embodied ways of creating a character. Suitable for all character creatures - clowns, bouffons, drag artists, burlesque performers…
