    Event description

Charcoal Painting, Stories from the Fire

A painting and drawing workshop. Facilitated by Melissa O'Rourke.

Using charcoal we collect from the embers of our fire stories, work with artist Melissa O’Rourke to weave your own stories into free flowing charcoal drawings. Learn some of the process used to make her latest body of work The Company of Women.

Make your own charcoal paint and use it to create dynamic images. Using gestural brushwork on paper, we will explore faces as a way of evoking landscapes of feeling and feminine knowing. We will tune into stories of women across time and place and delight in the marvellous messiness of charcoal.

Suits all levels of experience from absolute beginner onwards. All materials are provided for you

About the workshop host: Melissa O’Rourke is an artist and designer-maker living in Dja Dja Wurrung country in Central Victoria. Working across a range of materials and formats, her art practice moves between painting, drawing, design, print and sculpture, to explore the representation of female perspectives drawn from her experience of living, loving and travelling both at home and away.

Melissa spent many years teaching visual and performing arts and is looking forward to welcoming you to a warm and nurturing workshop environment.
