Eid al-Fitr Festival 2024 (NZ Eid Day x Asturlab)
Event description
Eid Al Fitr is hugely important for Muslims worldwide, marking the end of the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims around the world fast from dawn until dusk each day. The celebration of Eid Al Fitr is a time of joy, thanksgiving, gift-giving and feasting with family and friends. This year NZ Eid Day and Asturlab have joined forces in collaboration with Christchurch City Council
Enabling the public celebration of Eid Al Fitr in Christchurch helps to uplift and empower the Muslim community, increasing connectedness among the various ethnic Muslim communities here while building bridges with the wider community of Christchurch. This festival encourages Muslim community members of all ages and ethnicities to come together for a public celebration of a shared cultural tradition in a safe, supported space that aligns with their values. These festivals also serve to promote multiculturalism and raise awareness of the rich diversity of ethnic Muslim cultures here in Christchurch, and to create an inclusive environment for Muslim families, especially children, to experience the joy and significance of Eid.
