HSC Chemistry Teachers - Module 8: Applying Chemical Ideas
Event description
This NESA ACCREDITED workshop is designed for teachers new to teaching HSC Chemistry plus those who would like to refamiliarise themselves with the content, background theory and make connections across the different Inquiry Questions of Module 8: Applying Chemical Ideas, in the HSC Chemistry syllabus. Connections will also be made with other modules. We will be unpacking:
- Analysis of Inorganic Substances
- Analysis of Organic Substances
- Chemical Synthesis and Design
In the process, teachers will be acquiring appropriate and varied pedagogies and determining the relevant 'assumed knowledge' from the Year 11 syllabus.
Completing HSC Chemistry Module 8: Applying Chemical Ideas (Live) will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLF addressing Standard
Descriptor(s) 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
A Certificate of Completion will be sent to Graduate Teachers for their evidence.
Workshop Delivered by Dr Col Harrison
Col began teaching in Sydney's golden west in 1988. Since then he has worked in the public and private sector as well as holding several roles in teacher training and development with Peer Support Australia and Beaconhouse in the United Arab Emirates. He has HSC marking experience in Biology and Chemistry and has a YouTube channel to support flipped learning in the classroom. Col is the current Head of Science and Leader of Professional Learning at St Philip's Christian College, Port Stephens.
