    Event description

    What’s it all about?

Chikankari is a very old traditional embroidery technique also known as Shadow Work. This ancient art form was introduced to India during the Mugal era in 16th Century and is still practiced in the Northern India.

Originally this work was done on white fabrics using white threads creating a surreal effect especially on sheer fabrics. Chikankari
has been brought into limelight by many Indian designers as they use and explore this embroidery technique to cover the entire garments with delicate floral motifs.

In this class we will learn various stitches and techniques on sheer cotton fabrics. You will create a sample that can be framed, used as a
patch or can become part of a bigger project.

    All materials will be provided.

A basic sewing skill can be helpful but not necessary as the stitches are simple and easy to follow.

    What will we cover?

In this hands on class Manjari will cover:

    • History of Chikankari
    • Different stitches, motifs, and fabrics
    • Sewing basics
    • Sewing your own piece of Chikankari!
