Join us for the Child Well-being Research Institute's 2024 Literacy Research Symposium! This premier event will bring together reading researchers, school leaders, speech-language therapists, teachers and literacy specialists in a one-day event showcasing research on culturally responsive teaching practices, enhancing children's oral language skills and accelerating literacy learning for all tamariki.

This year's symposium features two outstanding keynote speakers:

  • Professor Russell Bishop: A prominent New Zealand academic known for his significant contributions to education, particularly in indigenous education and culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Associate Professor Marleen Westerveld: A distinguished researcher known for her influential contributions to understanding and supporting children's oral language and literacy development.

The symposium will feature a dynamic panel discussion, Embracing Structured Literacy: Navigating New Zealand's Mandate from 2025, with esteemed experts including Professor Gail Gillon, Professor William Tunmer and Professor James Chapman.

Symposium speakers will showcase recent research in children’s literacy learning including effective interventions for children with dyslexia, digital screen time and children's learning, advancing literacy in English language learners and, vocabulary development.  

Join us for a full day of learning and inspiration as we come together to explore new ideas, share best practices and ignite passion for advancing literacy.
