Event description

A trove of letters reveal what life was like for children in 19th century Christchurch.

The Barker family arrived in Lyttelton aboard the Charlotte Jane in 1850 and settled in Christchurch. Canterbury Museum Curator Human History, Paulien Martens, talks about the 65 letters written by the Barker children held in the Museum collection.

These letters provide a revealing insight into life for children in settler Christchurch.
