Celebrate Children's Week with us — mess included!
Hobart Toy Library is celebrating Children's Week 2026 with a FREE Messy Play Day. This event is supported by the Playgroup Tasmania Children’s Week Small Grant Program
This year's Children's Week theme is “Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion,” and we've shaped the whole day around it — celebrating culture through food, play and creativity, and making sure every child, whatever their background or ability, can take part.

Decorate your own library bag to take home
Craft activities
Sensory play
Light refreshments included
How it works
Choose your 45 minute session (9am, 10am or 11am)
Entry is free, but RSVPs are essential
Dress for mess, and bring a spare change of clothes
Please let us know any dietary or access needs on booking, so we can plan catering and support thoughtfully for your family.
FAQs
- What age groups is this event for?
While Hobart Toy Library typically caters for kids aged 0-8, all ages are welcome at this event. There'll be something for everyone!
- What should I dress my kids in?
Dress for mess, and bring a spare change of clothes. Old clothes, waterproof overalls, art smocks: whatever you're happy to get paint on!
- Can we borrow toys on the day?
To avoid confusion, toys will not be available for loan during the Messy Play Day.
You can borrow toys at our borrowing sessions:
Mondays 9-11am
Fridays 2:30-4:30pm
1st Saturday of each month 2:30-4:30pm
- Can I volunteer at the event?
We'd love you to volunteer at the event, and if you're a member, it will count towards your volunteer sessions for the year.

- Can I bring my kids if I'm volunteering?
Of course — just make sure they're registered for a session too.
- What's the wet weather plan?
South Hobart Community Centre has both indoor space and an undercover outdoor area, so the event will run rain, hail or shine.
- Is the event catered?
Light refreshments will be served. We'll try to cater for most dietary requirements - please get in touch if you have specific questions.
- Do I need to be a Hobart Toy Library member to register?
No, but we'd love you to join! Memberships start at $30, and give access to over 800 toys worth more than $40,000.
