Event description

Chisholm St is a live performance space on Wadawurrung country, Ballarat. We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.

Hosted by Bronwyn Blaiklock, Chisholm St is an intimate foray into fascinating corners of classical music. This diverse series of concerts by regional musicians gives you a rare glimpse into creative music-making, up close and personal.

CHISHOLM ST: SEASON PASS

The season pass for 2023 includes a Friday evening seat at each of the following six Chisholm St concerts at a discounted price. Unfortunately, season tickets cannot be refunded, so if you are unable to attend a concert, consider gifting your seat to a friend. The performances start at 6 pm and finish at 7 pm, and the ticket price includes refreshments afterwards.

If you have discovered this after one or two concerts have already passed you by, then buying a season pass will get you an extra seat at one or two of the remaining concerts so you can bring a friend 'free'.

The six concerts

Inscape Piano Trio | 24 February
The Inscape Piano Trio features new music by composer and pianist Rick Chew, with international concert violinist, Dunja Lavrova and acclaimed cellist, Lachlan Dent. Rick’s music is lyrical and dramatic; contemporary classical music that draws inspiration from the wellspring of traditional song from the British Isles, from poetry, painting, and the fierce beauty of the natural world.

History of the Tango | postponed to 1 September
Flautist Sarah Goodbourn joins pianist Bronwyn Blaiklock for a special program of Astor Piazzola's work, which includes his epic and multifaceted piece, History of the Tango. You will want to swing your hips and move your feet hearing this enlivening music by the man credited with giving the modern tango its form.

Well Strung Trio | 29 September
The mastery of local guitarists, Adam Seery, Lindon Kriss and guest, will put rhythm in your toes and a smile on your face. Their concerts in 2021 and 2022 were sold out so get in early!

Paige Duggan Duo | 20 October
Paige Duggan and Robbie Melville bring you an evening of jazz standards sure to warm your soul. Vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Paige has a raw and honest approach to jazz and her extraordinary and rare talent make her performances a truly engaging experience.

Homage to Bach | postponed to 10 November
Homage to Bach explores the profound and wide-reaching impact of the work of baroque composer, J.S. Bach. Joining pianist Bronwyn Blaiklock on trombone is Ballarat musical legend, Hugh McKelvey, who only recently put down his baton from conducting the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra. Included in the hour-long program is Bach English Suite #2, and works by Dubois and Bozza for trombone and piano.

Golden Age | 1 December
Golden age musicals played a huge role in popular culture. Join us at Chisholm St to hear show-stopping talent, Sarahlouise Younger, perform songs from the golden years - the 1940s-1950s - with pianist Bronwyn Blaiklock, featuring songs from Musicals such as 'West Side Story', 'A Star is Born', 'Calamity Jane', 'Showboat' and more.
