Description

Step into the wild side of Alexandrina, discover our amazing native birdlife, and become a citizen scientist.

Whether you’re brand‑new to birdwatching or already know your rosellas from your wrens, this experience will help you build new skills and deepen your appreciation for the feathered neighbours that share our region.

Come on a relaxed, guided walk led by passionate local birders and learn how to use binoculars like a pro, identify native birds, and upload your discoveries to iNaturalist—one of the world’s favourite citizen science platforms. Whether you're a seasoned contributor or just dipping your toes into citizen science, you’ll walk away with handy tips, fresh knowledge, and a deeper connection to our local biodiversity.

The walking tracks may be uneven and require moderate fitness, good footwear, and suitable clothes. Wear sunscreen, a hat and bring your own binoculars. If it rains, bring an umbrella. Birds will be out even in rainy weather conditions.

Suitable for ages: 12+.  Children must be supervised by a guardian.

The meeting point is at the southern end of the carpark at the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre, off Ocean Road entrance, to discover the birds at the Beyond Ponds.
