Chocolate Catapult Design Workshop
Event description
CAD Design (Computer-aided design) and 3D printing, are versatile tools that can be used to bring even your wildest imaginations to life.
This course will help teach young minds the basics of design, 3D printing and basic engineering principles, inspiring a new generation to take up pathways in STEM starting from right now.
This workshop will run from the Tuesday the 24th of September to Wednesday the 25th of September, from 9AM to 12PM each day. Each day will work on a different aspect of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and manufacturing (3D printing and laser-cutting). While the workshop is a continuous experience, each of the days can be attended as an individual workshop.
This is a beginner/intermediate course, however we are experienced in designing, and manufacturing robotic parts that are used in the real world. We will work on the basic skills needed to model dice, vases and gift boxes, and demonstrate how to work and use 3D printers for future creations.
After learning the basic skills, we will work to create a 3d-printed/laser-cut Chocolate Catapult (+other fun projects), which the children will have the opportunity to design, customise and manufacture to take home at the end of the workshop.
No prior experience is needed to attend. Recommended grades for this workshop are grades 6 to 12. Anything that is printed over the course of the three days you can keep!
The CAD software that will be used is Onshape - Onshape is a free to use, browser-based CAD software used by industry professionals, and means your child can continue to design their inventions after this workshop. Although we will run through installation at the start of the workshop, please try and make an account beforehand. Please use the link below to make an account, and follow the website prompts. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at thust9@eq.edu.au.
Tickets are $50 for each day individually, or a discounted price of $90 if you buy a ticket for the full workshop.
