This course will show you how to support informed decision-making, the most effective risk management strategy for improving the person’s quality of life, and reducing the risk of complaints and non-compliance with Quality Standards

Course outcomes:

  • Discover what supported decision making is and the benefits to the person, staff and organisations
  • Gain awareness of legal and quality standard requirements
  • Learn about a person’s rights to make decision
  • Understand staff’s responsibilities Duty of Care when supporting choice
  • Know what to consider if restricting a person’s choices when safeguarding
  • Learn when the documentation of supported informed decision making is required and how it is used to defend Duty of Care and Quality Standard compliance
  • Opportunity to discuss real cases of when to document informed decision making
  • Practice case studies of documenting legally defensible supported informed decision making
