Event description

Do you ever wish you could meet up with a bunch of like-minded folks, sing and have fun while making beautiful, joyful music?  In an inclusive, safe space?

Yeah, us too.

Come sing with CHOIR CLUB -- it's ike a vocal harmony flash mob! -- in Santa Monica, CA on Monday evenings. It’s an immersively human musical experience, a laid back class, a community hang -- AND a low-pressure rehearsal and song study.  We learn and perform one song a week for ourselves and each other.

Choir Objectives:

  • To practice singing with others (sightreading is optional)
  • To weave beautifully blended harmony out of diverse voices
  • To find unity of purpose in pursuit of harmony
  • To sing our brains out and have fun

Requirements:

  • Ability to listen well and recall a single line melody, sing an interval, hold pitch
  • Willingness to surrender to imperfection while striving for constant improvement
  • Ability to keep things light, kind, and joyful

Expectations and Guidelines:

  1. There is only one instructor. No coaching or criticizing fellow choir club members unless asked for help.
  2. Singers practice gentle acceptance of their own abilities and those of the singers in the room with you.
  3. Disrespectful, disruptive and discordant behavior will not be tolerated.
  4. This is an inclusive group. No racist, sexist, genderist language or behavior will be tolerated.
  5. No topical debates in the choir room. Keep the focus on the music and community connection between choir members — in other things, the common thread that brings us together. We only have two hours together each week, let’s sing!
  6. Singers will ask questions if needed to clarify the music or directions.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Do not come to a choir meeting if you have respiratory illness or symptoms of contagious disease (including but not limited to cough, sore throat, fever, runny nose, watery eyes, skin rash, nausea). Instructor reserves the right to ask singers to leave if they are symptomatic.

MATERIALS

This is a multi-level group -- beginners to professionals are all welcome! Participants will be provided song charts and lyric sheets for the song of the week. You are encouraged to pick a part based on your own experience and skill level, vocal range, and desire for challenge. Sight reading is helpful but not necessary, and charts will be provided for those who want to practice sight reading.

WHAT TO BRING

  • A bottle of water
  • Wear clothes that allow movement and easy breathing
  • Reading glasses if you need ‘em
  • a pen or pencil to make notes if you need to
