Sewing Machine Basics - Christmas Sewing Workshop

Are you still buying Christmas decorations? Join us at Makerspace Adelaide to learn some sewing machine basics to make sustainable Christmas decorations that can be used year after year. Our friendly volunteers will help you with all the basic sewing skills you will need to make unique decorations and gifts and you will walk away with new knowledge, ideas, skills and a completed Christmas sewing project.
In this workshop, you will be guided through making bunting, Christmas tree ornaments and we will help you to bring your own ideas to life. We will be using new and reclaimed fabrics provided by Makerspace Adelaide included in the price of the workshop. You are welcome to bring along your own fabrics and notions to suit your decor. We will demonstrate basic use of our Brother Scan and Cut machine to add appliqué and heat transfer vinyl to your sewing projects.
Sewing skills you will practise:
Machine threading
Bobbin winding
Straight stitching
Zig zag
Pivoting
Decorative embroidery stitches
Brother Scan and Cut tutorial will cover:
Set up and start up
Selecting in built designs
Resizing and cutting designs
Correct mat use and maintenance
Included in the price of the workshop are materials for:
1.5m of hand made Christmas fabric bunting
Scrappy Christmas tree ornament
Fabric bauble

Age group: 14+ (Parent/guardian required for anyone under 16)

BYO sewing machine (contact us if you need to borrow one)
