Event description

A new Music Residency for WollCon – The Chroma Quartet – will be performing exclusive concerts in the Illawarra, thanks to a Create NSW arts and cultural grant.

Officially launching on the in June 2021 (after many months of Covid-19 lockdown) the Chroma Quartet are passionate about creating beautiful music.

Forming a string quartet came naturally for Harry Bennetts (First Violinist), Victoria Bihun (Second Violinist), Elizabeth Woolnough (Viola), and Eliza Sdraulig (Cello), having worked together in other musical settings but more importantly who enjoyed each other’s company.

Now they are bringing that joy of playing as a quartet to Wollongong audiences as a new artist residency at WollCon.

“We’re excited to bring a wide range of music to the Wollongong audiences. There are a few classics in there but also a few pieces that are not as widely known or played but just as exciting and rewarding.” – Victoria Bihun (violinist).

The quartet perform in a range of venues, from a concert hall or traditional salon-style setting to the local bar or pub.

“We have played in Wollongong before with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, but this will be the first time we play there as a quartet. We haven’t played in the Wollongong Art Gallery before and are very excited since we have heard only great things!” - Victoria Bihun

For their first concert in Wollongong’s Art Gallery (21st July @ 4pm) the quartet will be playing Haydn String Quartet Opus 76 No 5, Schulhoff 5 pieces for String Quartet, and Mendelssohn String Quartet No 6 in F minor, Op. 80.
