Churchill Park Circuit Walk - Grade 3 (Medium)
Event description
The Boroondara Bushwalkers invite you to join them on the Churchill Park Circuit Walk. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.
This is a circuit walk from Churchill Park into the northern parts of Lysterfield Park. Lots of kangaroos and a great view from the trig point. We will take an easy pace and have lunch along the way. Bring thermos of hot water and a mug for shared tea, coffee and cake at the picnic area after the walk.
DISTANCE: 10km
WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? This walk is ideal for moderately fit people who want to experience walking with a group in a bush environment only 35km from the Melbourne CBD.
CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.
AWT GRADE 3 (Medium): Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Tracks may have short steep sections, a rough surface, and many steps. AWT Grade information.
PACE: We will take an easy pace, particularly up the hills. Plenty of time to look at the views, photograph the abundant kangaroos and watch the daredevil mountain bike riders on the cycling tracks that are adjacent to but carefully separate from the walking tracks.
TOTAL ASCENT: approximately 260m over a few moderately steep ups and downs.
WALK DESCRIPTION:
From the picnic ground we follow a disused water channel through a popular kangaroo habitat before climbing past a couple of water holes to the top of the hill in Lysterfield Park. Then down close to the bike paths and through a lovely rocky eucalypt grove before climbing again to lunch with views at the trig point. Then it is (almost) all downhill to complete the circuit. There will be two scenic snack spots before lunch, and time after the walk to share afternoon tea at the picnic area.
MEETING POINT: Full details of how to recognize our group at the starting point will be sent to those who sign up.
DIRECTIONS: Google Maps will point you to the Churchill Park after hours car park. (Google Maps link https://maps.app.goo.gl/WHXc9x5N8AW7aG8U8) Do not park here, but continue another 100m south east on Churchill Park drive and turn left through the park gates. Follow Army track around to the left to park at the picnic grounds.
PHONE SIGNAL: Reasonable phone signal throughout the park
TOILETS: Yes at the start/end of the walk. Trees to stand/squat behind on many sections of the walk.
