CITIES, PEOPLE, ARCHITECTURE MOVIE SERIES: The Legacy of the Olympics

Join us for this special screening of ‘The Legacy of the Olympics’, a french documentary followed by a short korero framing the main themes of the film in the local context.  

The legacy of the Olympics considers both architectural and social perspectives, examining how a global event reshapes territories and lives. It looks at the economic, social, environmental, and cultural effects. 

From Grenoble to La Plagne-Tarentaise, Albertville, Autrans, and Paris, the film traces both the visible and intangible legacies left behind by the Olympic Games.

This film explores the legacy of the Olympics from both architectural and social perspectives, examining how such a global event reshapes territories and lives. It looks at the economic, social, environmental, and cultural effects at scales ranging from entire regions to individual residents and athletes. The following questions are raised:

What becomes of Olympic infrastructure once the Games are over?

What lasting impact do they have on the cities and communities that host them?

This is the final of the four part architectural documentary screenings presented as part of the Cities, People, Architecture series. The series is presented by the NZIA Wellington Branch in collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington and  Bonnifait+Associates Architects, with the support of the Embassy of France in New Zealand.
