Co-founded by The Matcha Initiative and The Transmutation Principle, AlterCOP Summits aim to keep corporate and the public informed of COP proceedings and outcomes, facilitate discourse and knowledge learning on corporate sustainability in a localised context, foster collaboration among various actors (professionals, academics, youth, NPOs, community groups, and policymakers) and inspire action.

As Australia prepares to potentially host COP31, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to open up climate dialogue to all and show that local actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change are already happening across different communities.

Running alongside the United Nations (UN) COP30 agenda, the four-day event will foster grassroots ownership of global climate goals while amplifying local and regional engagement across Australia.

City of Melbourne - Sustainable City Walking Tour

Join us for a guided walking tour through Melbourne’s city centre to explore how sustainability is shaping the urban environment — past and present. This engaging two-hour walking tour which highlights key projects and initiatives that are transforming Melbourne's capital city into a more liveable, resilient and sustainable city.

This two-hour walking tour will start at Narrm Ngarrgu Library (library entrance), near Queen Victoria Market. The tour will finish at Treasury Gardens, weaving through the capital city area.

As part of the tour, we’ll reflect on:

Melbourne’s transformation into a vibrant 24-hour city. We’ll explore how population growth and adaptive reuse of office buildings breathed new life into Postcode 3000.

Building Energy Performance and Electrification - Throughout the tour, we’ll spotlight recent projects that are enhancing energy performance and driving electrification across both public and private buildings.

City Greening - From laneway greening to lush green walls and rooftop gardens , we’ll explore how the City of Melbourne is tackling the urban heat island effect while boosting biodiversity and biophilia.

Water Sensitive Urban Design - We’ll delve into Melbourne’s approach to becoming a Water Sensitive City, with stops showcasing stormwater harvesting systems, permeable pavements, and rainwater tree pits. These features help manage water sustainably while enhancing the resilience and liveability of urban spaces.

Neighbourhood-Scale Energy Innovation - We’ll visit a newly installed neighbourhood-scale battery system, a key step in decentralised energy storage.
