Civic Tech: Tech for Social Impact
Event description
Building, using and investing in technologies for social impact.Â
What technologies will make the biggest difference in your community?
Civic technologies deliver social outcomes. They make it easier for people to find and use services, engage with governments and self-organise to deliver socioeconomic change in their community.
The Centre for Civic Innovation are pleased to be supporting the development of these tools in Australia.
We will have an amazing line-up of speakers and founders who will share their stories on the night, including:
- An international panel with Tiago Peixoto from the World Bank and Rebecca Rumbul from My Society
- An Australian panel with Amelia Loye from The Centre for Civic Innovation, Matt Sawkill from Code for Australia, Nigel Abbott from Fundsition and Stephen Rutter from the Scale Institute
- Eight founders of Civic Tech companies in Australia:
- Paper Plain helps people find out what’s happening in their neighbourhood or building.
- My Community Directory is an online platform connecting individuals to health information and services.
- Communiteer brings change-makers, charities and corporates together to do more social good.
- Start Some Good is a cause-driven crowdfunding platform that supports social purpose organisations.
- Environment.Vote helps people make decisions about who to vote for in their electorate based on a set of environmental criteria.
- Mel Flanagan from Nook Studios will be joining us to share the Process Map tool for government.
- Leila Alem will share her experience on implementation of Augmented Reality for remote Health services.
This great lineup will be facilitated by Ross Dawson, globally recognised as a leading futurist and board member of Centre for Civic Innovation.
Civic Tech is a global social movement, which has been less developed in Australia until now.Â
The Centre for Civic is currently building up a network of organisations in Australia to support the development of Civic Tech and using this information to map potential pathways for civic innovators in Australia.
This event will be the first in a series of events by The Centre for Civic Innovation, which will explore how civic innovators can contribute to their community.
